Pang Tong

In the novel, Liu Bei led an army to attack Xichuan (西川) with Pang Tong as his advisor. During the campaign, Pang Tong was killed in an ambush at the Valley of the Fallen Phoenix as he was riding on Liu Bei’s horse, which was said to be an omen of death as it brought death to its rider, so enemy troops in the ambush mistook him for Liu Bei. Also, as if it was predestined, Pang Tong’s nickname was "The Young Phoenix" (鳳雛) and his place of death was called Valley of the Fallen Phoenix. In history, Pang Tong was not killed in an ambush at Valley of the Fallen Phoenix, but was killed by straw arrows while attacking the enemy city.
