Guan Yu
In the novel, Guan Yu attended a banquet held by Wu’s commander Lu Su alone, armed with only his halberd, even when he knew it was one of Wu’s attempts to force him to hand over Jing province (荊州). True enough, Lu Su did have some soldiers lying in an ambush to kill Guan Yu but did not succeed and Guan Yu left the banquet safely. In history, however, the political-style banquet was held by Guan Yu and Lu Su set forth to attend the banquet, with his subordinate generals armed with only swords.
